Position Details:

Caseload Overview:

• Teach high school-level science coursework aligned with district curriculum
• Deliver instruction to a diverse student population in an urban school setting
• Differentiate lessons to accommodate varying academic levels and learning styles
• Implement strong classroom and behavioral management strategies
• Engage in ongoing communication with students, families, and school administration
• Participate in a Zoom interview as part of the hiring process

Key Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate mastery of subject matter, instructional strategies, and all relevant course materials
• Create and implement rigorous lesson plans aligned with state standards and district expectations
• Use formative assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction
• Support students’ academic growth through effective differentiation and scaffolding
• Maintain structured, well-managed classrooms that support learning and safety
• Collaborate with grade-level teams, department staff, and administrators
• Attend meetings, professional development sessions, and other school functions
• Document student performance and maintain accurate grading records

Requirements:

• Active Pennsylvania teaching certification in the appropriate Science content area
• Must be able to complete all required PA clearances (FBI, Child Abuse, PA Criminal, etc.)
• Bachelor’s Degree required to be eligible for an emergency teaching permit
• Prior school-based teaching experience required
• Proven strength in classroom and behavioral management
• Experience working in an urban educational setting highly preferred
• Comfortable with the district’s environment, expectations, and student population

• Pay: $34–$36/hour (based on experience)

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and effective science instruction aligned with Pennsylvania state standards.

• Create and implement lesson plans that include differentiation and formative assessments.

• Demonstrate strong classroom and behavioral management skills to foster a positive learning environment.

• Evaluate and monitor student progress through assessments and data-driven strategies.

• Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to enhance the educational experience for all students.

• Participate in professional development opportunities to strengthen instructional practice.

Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania teaching certification required (or eligibility for an emergency teaching permit with a bachelor's degree).

• Must have prior experience working in a school setting.

• Experience in an urban educational environment strongly preferred.

• Must be able to complete all required PA clearances.

• Demonstrated mastery of subject matter, instructional skills, and related resources.

• Excellent communication and classroom management abilities.
