Teach in Arkansas
There are nearly 500,000 students enrolled in the 3,667 private and public k-12 schools in Arkansas. Parents may enroll their children in one of the 267 traditional public and charter schools in the state. If you are looking for a teaching position in Arkansas, you have a wide variety of choices available including elementary, middle, and high school teaching jobs.
Arkansas school districts large and small provide a variety of teaching options. Larger school districts like Little Rock, Springdale, Bentonville, and Fort Smith, AR are always looking for qualified teaching candidates. But there’s no shortage of opportunities if you want to teach in one of the smaller Arkansas communities like Jasper, Pine Bluff, or DeWitt. There are also possible teaching positions in popular tourist areas like Eureka Springs and Hot Springs. Public schools in Arkansas need qualified teachers for various grades and subjects.
Arkansas Teacher Qualifications and Certifications
To become a certified teacher in Arkansas, you’ll need to complete three steps. First, teacher candidates must complete an approved teacher preparation program along with earning an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. Prior to being admitted into a teacher education program, you’ll need to take the Praxis I/PPST and the Praxis II: Principles of Learning and Teaching. After you have satisfied these requirements, you can make an application for an Educator’s License. Arkansas has two levels of licensure. A provisional certificate allows individuals to teach while finishing coursework and tests. Then the Arkansas educator credentials can be pursued.
